December 28, 2003 "The Details" Places I saw, things I did...the usual...
I couldn't sleep! I tried to keep my head on the pillow and trick myself into falling asleep for nearly an hour and a half, but finally decided it was useless at about 5:30 AM. After checking the times for sunrise I decided I'd try to get as far away from the city as I could by then. I finally made it out of the house right at 6:00AM and I could already see light in the sky to the East.
I didn't stray too far from my usual path because all of my maps seem to be packed away in a box somewhere. That meant no new roads and definitely not getting too far off on any little dirt roads or trails off of the main roads. I have a very bad memory and every little fork in the road starts to look the same to me after a while. I started out from S.D. heading East on I-8 and then took Sunrise Highway out to Julian. There I decided to spend my last few dollars to fill the tank back up and headed farther East on S2. I've been this route before on the day after my birthday on 2002. I'm not sure but I think that might have been the last time I went out for a drive...if so, THAT SUCKS!!
